Canciones de Nochebuena

  • First Congregational Church of Los Angeles 540 South Commonwealth Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90020 United States (map)

Laude and The Cathedral Choir led by David Harris and joined by Michael Lehman on percussion bring David García Saldaña “Canciones de nochebuena” to life. In the world premiere of villancio settings from across Latin America that are largely unknown in the U.S., the choirs of FCCLA celebrate with diverse cultures across the Western Hemisphere, exploring varied traditions surrounding the Christmas holiday. Saldaña’s in depth research has created a concert piece that is exciting, delicate, and festive. “Canciones de nochebuena” is an attempt to expand Christmas holiday repertoire to include these Latin American gems by setting them for choral singers. His arrangements illuminate their sources while bringing them delightfully and intuitively into the choral space. This is a work that treats singers and audience alike with ease. It will last and spread quickly. FCCLA is open and affirming and all are welcome. Guests will be asked to show proof of vaccination upon entering. Free parking is available. Watch via live stream at fccla.org/live.
