Eleanor Daley's Requiem

  • The Sanctuary, First Congregational Church of Los Angeles 540 South Commonwealth Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90020 United States (map)

The Cathedral Choir and Laude perform Eleanor Daley’s deeply moving “Requiem” at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. Set to texts by poets Clare Harner (“Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep”) and Carolyn Smart (“The Sound Of The Birds”), and passages from the Hebrew and Christian Bibles, her “Requiem” serves as a celebrative exploration of life. Compared to the Catholic death rite text, Daley created an a-religious work that delves into the grief surrounding the loss of a loved one and the joy in finding self in that loss. The work will be shared on All Saints Day as a way for those in attendance to commemorate their loved ones past. Those present are invited to bring memorabilia of loved ones to display. Solos by Tiffany Ho and Molly Pease, directed by David Harris.

Free and open to the public.
